Take Time Tuesday {#7}

Take Time Tuesday, thanks Katie for hosting!

take-time-tuesday
Due to the recent events in Oklahoma, many emotions have flustered my mind and I have to say that I’m so thankful for the ability to communicate with family back home via technology.

familyILY

It is undoubtly very difficult being away from home, though it is part of the military lifestyle we’ve adapted to,  it’s extremely tough nonetheless. I personally find it especially difficult being away from loved ones during the holidays and even more so during times of tragedy and devastation. Moments of such as these make me want to run to those that I love and hug them endlessly. Tragedies remind me just how precious life is and how I must cherish and embrace every moment of it. Sadly, it is impossible to predict such events from occurring nor can I rush home every time they do occur, though I wish it were possible to do both. While nothing compares to the warmth of a hug/embrace from my family members, it is nice to connect with them through various modes of technology, via text, photo sharing and video chat.A and mommy

We typically video chat once a day, at least, with my parents. We chat so often that it has become part of our daily routine and A lights up when he hears the sound of a video call coming in. 🙂 I feel that this (amazing!!) technology has completely changed my little man’s relationship with his grandparents/aunts & uncles and I am ever so thankful for it, because it is such a joy to see him interact with them, whether he’s showing off, doing tricks and simply talking to them. While it might sound very shallow, (I swear it isn’t),  I honestly cannot fathom living without the wonderful technologies of today. Granted, I’m not saying it would be impossible, I’m just plainly acknowledging that A would have a completely different relationship with our families without video chats/skype; therefore I’m forever grateful for having access to these simple yet wonderful technologies that have enabled us to stay connected amongst the many miles of distance between us. ❤

Plus, I mean c’mon, who wouldn’t want to chat with this little ham?!

Love this! SO true:

Again, sending my thoughts & prayers to Oklahoma.

Take Time Tuesday {#5}

Thanks to Katie for another Take Time Tuesday! 🙂

take-time-tuesday

This week I’m thankful for my awesome, sweet, caring, and always inspiring and motivating hubby. ❤

Jage birthday

Not only is he a caring, loving and genuinely sweet person, he’s a fantastic daddy and super sweet husband! I especially adore the fact that he gets ME and all the things I’m completely and entirely passionate about. I especially love that he always motivates me and always allows me to take the time I need for myself.

20130430-222916.jpgLast night, I was exhausted and decided to skip out on my evening cardio. I had literally just decided to take it easy and slack off, even though I knew  I would feel better if I ran. I simply had no desire and no motivation whatsoever. Then my husband says, “hey babe, go for a run, I’ll keep an eye on A”  Instantly, those few words did it. It was nothing big, no glorious speech or motivational spiel, just a simple: “do what you gotta do for YOU” kind of thing.

I went from ZERO motivation to a TON with just that little boost and best part of all? I had an AWESOME  one of my BEST cardio workouts yet! Talk about a win-win in everybodys book! 🙂 And I would not have done it without *MY LOVE*.

family 2012

So thank you babe, for always loving me despite all of my imperfections. Thanks for always acknowledging and accepting all of the quirky fitness and health related ideas, trends and foods that I’m ever so passionate about and for always inspiring me to BEST that I can be! ❤ Most importantly, thanks for being *YOU* and loving ME. ❤

Take Time Tuesday

A sweet friend of mine, Katie who blogs at Life Half Full, decided to create a weekly link up for us to acknowledge all the wonderful things we are grateful for. It’s all about having an optimistic attitude, being thankful for one’s blessings and basically seeing the glass as half full! ❤

take-time-tuesday

So today, I’m taking the time to *SMELL THE ROSES* and think about a few things that I am super grateful for!

1. I’m THANKFUL that I completed the last of three mandatory state exams that I’m required to take in order to attain my teaching certificate!! 😀 I was on full study mode all weekend (well maybe not ALL weekend long, but a majority of it! 😉 and all day Monday as well. The anxiety of this last exam was driving me insane and even though I don’t know my final score yet, I’m just thankful that I did it. Now, all I need to do is relax and wait (anxiously) on the results.

study stuff{study stuff. let’s hope I don’t need to review these babies again soon! *fingers crossed*}

2. I’m grateful that my hubby was able to take time off from his busy schedule to watch the our little man while mommy took her big exam. I’m a SUPER NERVOUS test taker and adding the fact that I would have to be away from my little cutie for 3 hours + FREAKS ME OUT even more, so it really helped that my hubby totally understands this and arranged it so he was able to go with me to entertain our little man at stores nearby, while I took the exam, so that I could see them both immediately afterwards. 🙂 Seriously, what could be better after taking an extensive exam, that warps your brain til your practically brain-dead, than seeing your two favorite boys the second you walk out of the building?? ❤ I am blessed.

my boys{my boys! ❤ <3}

3. I’m also super thankful for the words of encouragement from my momma! ❤ There is nothing better than seeing that others are proud of you!

4. Lastly, to complete my day of joyfulness, I’m thankful for knowing a fantastic hairstylist. One who knows how to give you just the right hair fix when your at that point where you just want to chop it all off! 😉 I desperately needed a trim and have been meaning to get my hair done for the longest time but could never make time for myself, until today (also another thanks to my love). I called and was immediately seen which was awesome! I was in and out in a a quick minute and now my hair feels bouncy, more lively and super soft! *ahhh* pure joy!

hair things{happy hair=happy mommy!}

{p.s. I’m not big on selfies, clearly you can see I’m a shy gal! ;-)}

Oh & of course my stylist gave me a great product recommendation, without hassling me to get it (you know, kinda like a car salesman who insists you need it NOW!), which is always an extra plus in my book!

hair recommendations{So with that, I’ll willingly keeping my eye out for products of Mr. Paul Mitchell for my crazy curly, frizzy yet lusciously layered locks! 🙂 She said this is a great product for all hair types, especially those like me who want more moisture for their little frizzies!}

One last thing….I’m thankful for Elmo, particulary cute videos like these that my little man absolutely adores:

What have you been grateful/thankful for lately??

Hope your Tuesday was a great one! 🙂

A week of FIRSTS…

Just when I think I’m getting into a regular routine and plan on blogging more…BAM! something else pops up…..thus is life though right!?

So this past week has been a surprisingly fun, joyous and absolutely CRAZY and a bit hectic…but hey! we’re surviving!! (insert *I’m a survivor* song here! lol)

1. A sweet someone (A’s Momo) surprised us on Thursday night, flying in from TX just in time for little man’s birthday! 😀  It was TOTALLY unexpected; we are usually the ones doing the surprises, but this time we were the ones completely dumbfounded when we saw her at the front door.

2. My little baby turned *1* on Friday and we had his sweet birthday party on Saturday! 😀 (More birthday pics to come!)

IMG_3926

3. Following his birthday party, little man got sick and when I say sick, I mean really sick! 😦 He ran a fever (for the first time ever) causing us to make a trip to the ER. 😦

4. It actually *SNOWED* but enjoying it was the last thing on our minds. Aiden didn’t care much for the snow the last time we got a brief dusting, so I figured this weeks snow wouldn’t be very impressive to him either, plus we were NOT willing to risk him getting even more sick, so the winter wonderland was no big deal in our casa.

IMG_3690{Jan 23 Snow}

5. After many doses of children’s tylenol and motrin, my little love bug’s fever subsided, BUT then he got this random RASH all over his body. Again, I FREAKED OUT and we rushed to the ER once again. Thankfully, they said it was just a side effect of the fever and should go away in a couple of days. (which it slowly is, thank goodness!) {first time parent over reaction  maybe!?….YOU BET!}

6. Mommy’s homework was been placed on the back burner since my little munchkin has been a nursing & snuggle bunny all week long, and you know what?….I’m not even phased by it. Baby comes first! School work will eventually get done.

7. I love love love breastfeeding; I’ve had my ups and downs with it, but I swear the ups have completely outweighed the downs and this week further enhances my adoration for it. I’ve nursed A more these last couple of days than I have in months. The only thing that would soothe him was me nursing him and with that, I’d nurse him at little ache and cry all day and all night. Although, I felt as though I was nursing a newborn, I loved that I could make him feel a bit better. ❤

8. And lastly, on a sweet note, yesterday was the first time I’ve had blue bell ice cream here in VA! 😀 The commissary nearby has started to carry BLUE BELL and a friend dropped some off to us last night!! 🙂 Blue bell makes me happy!

P.s. Blue bell makes EVERYTHING better!

Now that my little honey bunny is feeling better, this mommy has to get back on her school work. Happy FRIDAY!! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!! ❤

A double munchkin meal win kind of Monday

Happy Monday ya’ll! I swear the weekend comes and goes SO quickly and Monday creeps up on us all the time.

Although, the semester “technically” started on Saturday, I finally opened up my textbook and read through each of my syllabi today….and you know what…I’m pretty EXCITED!! While I must say I greatly enjoyed the winter break, I immediately started to feel bored…I kept thinking to myself “what should I do now?!” lol I guess I’m just a busy body, or better put…. a *busy-brain,* always needing something on my mind to keep me challenged and focused.

While the challenge this semester is definitely going to be juggling classes and keeping after little Mr., I’m still planning on being more accountable fitness wise as well. I need to get into a workout routine and stick to it. I’m trying, really trying to workout early in the morning as a jump-start to my day…but everytime my alarm goes off it is just SO much easier to hit the lovely snooze button over and over again..lol But, I know that by getting into a regular routine of working out in the morning will help allievate the anxiety I get towards the end of the day when I’m trying to cook dinner,  chase a cute little 10 month old, and converse with the hubby. I hate looking at the clock and seeing it’s dinner time and I haven’t even workout yet…that totally kills my motivation and makes me a total grump.

So….any tips for getting into a daily EARLY morning workout regime??

MIMM

Now to the good stuff…my Monday was pretty stinking Marvelous because…

1. I actually read my first chapter for this week’s assignment earlier rather than later…(waiting til the last minute totally stinks…and I’ve promised myself to be more accountable this semester and read ahead/as early as possible!)

2. I got to *sleep in* this morning, thanks to my super sweet hubby! ❤ YAY for 9 am wake ups during the week!

3. I experimented with two of A’s meals today and they were both a hit! I made him blueberry oatmeal pancakes for breakfast & a mango-banana yogurt & oats smoothie for dinner. 😀 It was my first time making him a smoothie and he wouldn’t put the cup down! *insert proud mommy happy dance here*

(REAL MEN use their g/f’s pink cup! 🙂 lol)

4. I saw this awesome quote while browsing pinterest and HAD to share it!

5. And last but not least….today is my brother’s *19th* birthday!! Happy Birthday Vince! ❤

Hope you all have a *Marvelous Monday*!

2012 Goal Review

HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS! ❤ Here we are at the start of the New YEAR..YAY!! 2012 was not only the BEST year for me but also the FASTEST year ever to fly by. *Time FLYS when you’re having FUN!*

So even though I already posted my 2013 New Year’s Resolutions, I figured I would go back and see how 2012 was  for more inspiration in this upcoming year.

My goals for 2012 were:

*Love Family*-I believe I did a fairly good job expressing my love and admiration for my amazing and always loving and caring family, especially via social media, however I would like to write more notes, and send random cards and gifts of gratitude this year too just to show them how much they truly mean to me. ❤

*Relax*-Relax….pfffff! This was most definitely easier said than done….but atleast I TRIED. I think it’s hard to relax with a new baby along with the fact that I am a complete worry-wart. But that’s ok, I think relaxing will be much easier this time around for sure now that I’ve a taste of parenthood as well as the experience of balancing it out with grad school.

*Life-long friends*-This is one I am SOOO HAPPY about! I can honestly say that in 2012 I made some awesome, amazing, wonderfully sweet life-long friends that I truly count on through thick and thin! ❤ I just LOVE how neat is it that certain people cross our paths in life and leave a lasting impression on us forever. These people are truly such blessings, I would seriously not know what to do without them! ❤ ❤

Love you Jenny & Betty!!

*Shop smarter*– I think we totally rocked this one, we definitely got some great steals on baby items and learned how to not go over the top with baby purchases. I do still think we should focus on budgeting a bit more this year, which is why it’s part of my resolutions list of 2013.

*Enjoy/Embrace change*-This one I think I handled partially. I definitely learned to embrace the change from being a wife to a mommy…however I don’t think I’ve managed both equally. What I mean is, since the moment A was born I become completely immersed in being a mommy and have neglected being an awesome wifey as well. I think this year I need to also focus on making special date nights with the hubby too so that he doesn’t feel like I’ve abandoned him throughout this amazing yet exhausting and beautiful journey known as parenting.

*Live Fit*-I’m a health nut, while I’m not tracking calories on my calorie counter like I used to, I do believe I make good fit choices throughout the year. I do however feel I should continue this throughout the new year and expand my knowledge of what living fit for me is. There’s always room for improvement! 😉

*Smile more*-Of course I smiled more this year….along with bunches of laughs, and some tears throughout this new adventure in mommyhood. 🙂

*Be a good mom*-Whenever I was pregnant, people would tell me “OMG! You are going to be a GREAT mom!!” and I would think to myself….”how do they know this?!” “do I look like a great mom? What if I MESS UP?!?” I constantly worried about not being *good enough* and worried if my maternal instincts would really magically appear….and I’m not saying I deserve the *MOM OF THE YEAR* award, but I do think I’ve done a fairly awesome job at becoming a mommy! Plus, its only the BEST feeling in the world loving on this little adorable man!

loving you

As far as my fitness goals:

*Eat more Veggies*-I ate a good amount of veggies but always feel there is no such thing as TOO MANY Veggies. So I’ll be definitely trying to incorporate more into my meals again this year.

*Focus on good food*-I would again classify this as eating clean or otherwise known as choosing healthy food options. Again, this is on my 2013 list of things to do. Yet again, there is always room for improvement!!

*Work it out*-I worked it out as often as possible……or so I believe. So maybe I could have done a few more miles here and there and taken a workout class more times that I did, BUT I struggled with the mommy-guilt of leaving my new sweet little blessing at home while I shaked my boo-tay. This year though, I plan on really getting into a workout routine since my little man is becoming more and more independent by the minute and I feel he and daddy are bonding more and more each day and can handle mommy doing her thang for 1 and half or so. 🙂

*Run a 5k*-This one I failed at completely. :-/ but that’s ok…it was a worthy goal but I was just simply too busy with school and mommyhood to really get into running again.

*Drink more water*-Throughout the year I drank and drank and drank water like it was going outta style, especially since everyone told me is was GREAT for my milk supply! 🙂 However lately, I’ve been slacking on the H2O and want to again focus on drinking plenty of it this year as well.

Looking back on my goals I have to say I’m pretty proud of all that I accomplished and feel that each year will bring on new challenges and hopefully new obstacles that I’ll proudly dominate! 😀 So CHEERS to 2013 my friends, lets make it the best one yet!! 😀

❤ Alicia

P.s. Don’t forget to get your READ ON and read to your sweet little ones!! I’ve already picked out a few awesome books for the upcoming weeks that I cannot wait to share with you! 😀 Can’t wait to hear what you’ve been reading to your babies as well! ❤
